Finally, sulumits retsambew got its final destination and crowned 3 top webmasters. Luckily, I’m one of them and grabbed #2. I’m Happy shappy but really late in posting my last sulumits retsambew result post too, that’s when business becomes the priority sometimes and we don’t get time.

I must admit that I almost lost the position in last week but a sudden boost from Google and push from my friend circle prompted me to work on it and I was back to #2. Hellas is a deserving champion for this contest and his dedication, quality, excellent SEO strategies did all the job. Sony was enthusiastic all the time and grabbed #3. Congrats to the winners and congrats everybody who managed to reach top 10 results.

I thank  everybody who stayed with me throughout the contest. Boosted my moral support and subscribed the blog. Thank you everybody . The contest revealed perfect SEO tricks and tactics from international known and newbie webmasters.

Before, I write all my strategies of winning this contest, I’d like to tell you the last tactic I applied in last 4 days and got a good jump from #6 to #2. I bought 4 international links (not any authority but yes, from blogs with decent and quality backlinks). 3 of them were from free hosting blogspot blogs and 2 of seo and web hosting sites. All 5 were different niches. Another step I took was 3 contextual posts. And the last step was making some do-follow blog comments on some top ranking SEO and internet markters’ blogs.

These 3 steps and I left all up to Google. It was just a guess work but with a good confidence that it’d and it actually WORKED.

Unfortunately, I had no time to work on my entry after 3rd month but still I tried keeping it up to date with links and posts whenever I got some time.  It was my first ever contest and I was very positive to win. But #2 is something that worth my time and effort.

I’ll sum up my tactics and time devoted to the contest very soon.

As I already made a “If I win” post sometime back, I’ve donated $175 to Mighty eagle Foundation and $100 to one of Delhi based NGO and spending rest of money as planned

Stevz.com has got a hotspot and would be popular for its great entry at the right time. It has got the “beginners love” at the end of the contest.. Good match of timings.

TadkaShadka.com seems to use its last good links stored for these 3 days. It’s back to page 1. French Discodog too appears out of blue.

Well, I was totally out of contest in past few weeks and had no time or mood to jump into it in the last 3 days. A little chat with Hellas and frequent push from friends made me use my last trump card. Let’s see how it goes now. The last moment fluctuations are always breathtaking for all contestants when it comes at the mercy of Google. So what’s left? Wait and watch (and do your last underground jobs)

Okay now, let me share a word on latest Google updates with you. Sometime in march Google rolled out its latest algorithm change, dubbed ‘Vince’ after the Googler that implemented it; it has been claimed by SEO’s that this change prioritizes brands in results, however Google’s Matt Cutts says they don’t think about ‘brands’ at Google, but instead concern themselves with what a searcher is trying to find and returning that to them in the results.

Much of what has actually changed is speculation, understandably Google don’t want site owners to be able to manipulate the system they use to return high quality results for the betterment of their own site. So, the big question is this; what has changed, and how can your site change with it?

One change that has been noticed by SEO’s is as mentioned, that Google seems to be returning more brand focused results, Google claim this isn’t so much ‘brand’ focused as it is ‘trust’ focused. This would make sense as smaller brands will have had less time to establish this trust with users compared more established ones, so would appear lower on results pages. Trust however is an ambiguous word and Google have, as yet, not explained how this is quantified.

According to Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO, they don’t want site owners to understand this system; when asked how one should go about appearing more popular on Google he replied

“We don’t actually want you to be successful…the fundamental way to increase your rank is to increase your relevance.”

Schmidt also states “Brands are how you sort out the cesspool.” Schmidt uses ‘cesspool’ to refer to the internet, in reference to the amount of false information and low quality sites currently present on the web. This seems to be the opposite of what Cutts says in his video, confused yet?

Cutts does offer some advice however, stating that site owners should “Try to make a great site…become known as an authority in your niche.” In this video he also briefly refers to people talking about you and your site, this gives us a bigger clue as to what you should aim for and less ambiguous than trying to make your site more ‘trusted’ Many SEO’s have theorized that Google would be using social buzz as a factor for ranking pages, if people on the web are speaking about you, they believe Google see this as a strength of brand, making your site more relevant and more likely to be what people are wanting to find.

This would explain why big brands would have received a huge boost to SERP’s with the introduction of the Vince update; bigger brands will, by definition be spoken about much more than smaller ones. Cutts subtly hints at ways sites can increase their Google popularity in relevance to the Vince update (which he stresses is not an update, more a slight change) by saying “it doesn’t have to be a big niche…if your still the expert” possibly this could allude to the fact that competing against huge brands on popular keywords is now futile, and smaller brands should focus on more specific keywords.

I’m expecting no position change till next Sunday as I have closely noticed so far that Google does weekly updates.

Clear thing is, Google has taken a note of the sulumits retsambew contest seriously and filtered the pages (did it check for relevancy? Quality? Spamming?). Next week updates may surprise the contestants who have got good jumps as Google has rewarded their fresh work. Well.. It is anyway the high time to build ONLY quality links through quality pages and web 2.0 websites.

First page has got drastic changes and out of my imagination. There are some contradictions. My inactivity got my main sulumits retsambew entry dropped by one spot, whereas my another sulumits entry on personal blog is on page 1 (#10) from page 6 without any effort. Strange strange and weird.

Well, this is what I see from my datacenter. Recently, at Netbuilders, I noticed people showing quite different results in US and UK. But good for us that Will (in Singapore) sees almost same results what we have here.

As most of you already know, the most scary contestantant is a disco dude(dog?) from France. But looks like he is doing everything so quick and dancing at #4 for last 3 days. Though he is dropped to #6 and surely doesn’t have  a very bright future with such ultra-fast link building. But who knows he wins the contest at last moment :O LOL

On the other hand, looks like our gulf coast friend has started giving time to the entry too. All of a sudden we could see the entry at #4. Nice job

Our Kaboon friend is excited to be on first page with a new energy and strong will to win at the last moment. Great enthu.  

The controversial .com entry is dropped to #8 and I’ve no regret calling it the most non-deserving entry on Page 1.

There are few changes on Page 2 as well. A nicely updated entry studenthurricanenetwork.org is dropped to bottom of page 2.

And a new Indonesian entry has appeared on #13.

Just for an example, I’d take Hellas entry. Googles loves him because he updates his entry on a pretty regular basis (except past few days but Google didn’t hit him because of some emotional attachment by now.. LOL ).

Then I would like to pick up sulumitsretsambew.wongsableng.net that is another regularly updated entry and working real well. It is a new entry but managed to grab page 1.

studenthurricanenetwork.org is another new yet seems to be energetic sulumits retsambew contestant that gives regular updates and results are evident. The entry was on $10 some days back but now #12. Now bad at all. They must try one content update and test this fact too.

And one of the regularly sulumits entries is mine only. I was lazy but trying to give some time to sulumits now. After all, it is the last month and I must be bit dedicated to the effort. The content updates benefits were clearly stated at the beginning of this post.

While concluding the post for now, I must say; regular link building and regular site content updates definitely gives you an awesome result. Google loves anything that seems to be active and full of relevant content, and rewards it equally well. Must try. This could be a call to all sulumits contestants who either quit or working only on link building; they must try this content update trick on their entries.. I’d like comments on how it worked for you. (Except .com KD :O  sitting royal at #4 . That would remain a mystrious exception. I won’ even name that so it can have any indrect favor ) Okay.. And I’m adivising others without updating my own another sulumits retsambew entry that was almost ignored.. Time to pour some love and update that too.

Also, I noticed an inverted U graph for the contest. So many SEOers jumped to the contest with a great zeal in first month. After one and  a half month or so, there was almost no buzz and no new entries… Big contestants still stayed away. And then in 3rd month, there was again a rush, a good rush. We though we got a great competition now. But once again, some people quit and some lost hopes of making it to top 10 and not working at all.  Well, it’s true that competition is bit tricky and hectic for sure. Moreover, Google is behaving weird for some entries and favoring some out of blue.

I’ve spotted one of the things that I can work out. And it is correct and my rankings changed in next 5-6 days, then it’d be fantastic. I’ll surely write about in one of the next posts or may dedicate a complete post about it.

Nothing much changed from my last sulumits retsambew rankings update but I noticed the slideshare entry back to top 10. It wasn’t in place when I reviewed top 10 sulumits retsambew entries in my last post.  

One of the new entries, studenthurricanenetwork.org, is doing so well. We spotted the entry at bottom of page 2 and now it is on #10. Weldone! It is very very much possible that they’re getting Google love for beginners but real positions should be out in next 15-20 days. If they stay on page 1, they’re doing well. If they drop, they really need to work hard and I see the spirit from their posts.  

kabonfootprint.com is back to sulumits retsambew. Though the contestants entered with another site officially (sulumitsretsambew-id.com) but looks like his/her kaboon entry is doing better.

Nothing except the contest campaign is solely dependant upon automatic backlinks. It is working great for now but may not achieve stable positions because Google loves backlinks coming from variety of sources and linkbuilding methods.

He might think of getting backlinks from some different niches and authority sites to rank better. This review made me think over the strength of backlinks. I noticed many entries that used only one or two link building methods and doing well in contest. And if they use variety of methods, they’ll surely compete even stronger. Some new contestants entered last month are taking full advantage of these last days over the earlier competitors who either quit or still sleeping. Those old contestants can do better because if they have become 4 months old in “sulumits retsambew” niche.

I include myself in those lazy early birds. But I’m surely trying to stay active now and will keep my heads up till end now. Losing my #2 is enough to wake me up. This is the last month and time to do some serious and safe link building efforts. Like me and Hellas were talking some days ago and he made me laughed off my chair.. Guess what he said – what if he lose his #1 just a day before the contest ends and get that #1 back next day. LOL.. It’d be really terrific, horrible and weird.. It shouldn’t happen.. Recovering Sulumits Retsambew back to #2

It was a difficult time to get back to page 1 (#1/2) from page 15. Reasons were many. Some of my silly seo mistakes, conflicker worm attack and lack of time. But I didn’t give up, fortunately. After setting a target of 20 days, I was able to achieve #3 on day 16. One of my silly mistakes included contextual link building that should not be used for new blogs (at least the site/blog should be 3-4 months old). I realized it and removed all contextual links. And result was pretty expected. Sharp move from page 15 to 8. Contextual link building is one of the most effective link building strategies that actually works wonders to your search engine rankings. However, to get the best out of contextual links, you should

1. Use when some of link building steps like directory submissions, article marketing etc are already executed.
2. Use when your blog/site is at least 4 months old.
3. Use contextuals combined with article marketing and social bookmarking
4. Use it slow. One post everyday works well.

Next I fixed the page size and made a blog post on page size question. Set the number of posts per page to 2 to make it lighter. I just fixed these issues and started recovering my positions and finally got back to #2 (target was #1 though :p)

PR Update for sulumits retsambew

Sulumits retsambew wasn’t very pleased with recent PR update. With so many (10K+) strong and high PR backlinks, our sulumits retsambew contest entry got only PR1. Strange and weird. Hellas contest entry, I must say, one of the most popular and favorite blog, did’t get any PR. In top 10 results, only social bookmarking site Reddit.com seems to have the highest PR (4). As Google is getting very frequent with PR updates for the last one year, we expect something pleasant for sulumits retsambew contest entries in next update.

So, I was talking about some new and interesting results at the beginning of this post.

First two positions are unchanged. Me and Hellas are stable, fortunately. Credit goes to a fair and strong seo planning, regular content update and steady link building. .biz entry is out of page 1 and webmasterstimulus.org has replaced #3. I’m smelling this entry’s aim to replace me now . It’s an alert to you, Sunita. Techpresident.com is on #5. Probably, this is a new entry for me and I see it right on #5 and guess what weird. I see a message “Not Found”. Hmm.. owner must take care of this and maintain/improve his good position now.

Slideshare entry is back to #6. Yesterday, I noticed slideshare entry of sulumitsretsambew.in. Probably, it was a temporary Google love. Next positions are acquired by pedee.com, sulumitsretsambewblog.com. reddit entry and wabuf entry respectively.

Interestingly, I see my another sulumits retsambew entry, SunitaBiddu.com at #11. So good, so far. let’s see what I get for my personal blog.

Yesterday, I got an interesting plan for 4th month of sulumits retsambew. You’d find it pretty soon on my blog and am sure it’s gonna be really useful for new as well as expert webmasters. Stay tuned.
